A consortium of housing associations is looking for contractors and consultants for a retrofit framework worth £1.48bn.
Here at Buildpass, we are committed to staying at the forefront of the sustainable construction agenda – as part of this, we are dedicated to bringing you all the latest updates from the world of energy performance and low carbon buildings.
Recently, The Greener Futures Partnerships has announced a new retrofit framework worth £1.48bn. Its mission is to decarbonise housing stock through a programme of work including the installation of solar panels and heat pumps, insulation and roofing.

What is the Greener Futures Partnership?
Greener Futures Partnerships (GFP) is a consortium of five registered housing providers – Abri, Anchor, Home Group, Hyde and Sanctuary – who are working in collaboration to deliver the sustainable retrofit of homes.
The aim of GFP is to:
- Reduce fuel poverty and create healthier homes
- Agree a common approach to delivering sustainable housing
- Support customers to maintain their tenancies, to the benefit of society as a whole
- Positively encourage social housing residents to embrace sustainable living
- Influence change and drive the adoption of new technology
- Establish a common set of standards and environmental targets
- Share knowledge and expertise within the social housing sector and beyond
- Be the trusted voice for sustainability in social housing; influencing policy makers.
Undoubtedly, this is an incredible initiative – one desperately needed if we want to build our way to a more environmentally conscious future.
How will the retrofit framework be carried out?
The framework will be delivered across England and Wales over the next three years; however, it’s been designed with an option to extend it by another four years beyond that, in line with the government’s timetable for reducing energy consumption in buildings. Excitingly, the retrofit framework could also be made available to other interested contracting authorities, with up to 120 places available across a number of areas, with a deadline to apply set for the end of February.
It will include an innovative, forward-thinking approach based upon bespoke commercial models, allowing various options to call off works. There are multiple regional lots and a range of value bandings to encourage small, medium and large constructors and consultants to join the framework.
Alongside the framework, GFP will also be procuring a Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) for emerging technology and materials to support the delivery of the wider decarbonisation construction work.
We are incredibly excited to see how this progresses – there is still much to learn about the framework and how organisations can get involved, but however it all plays out, we know that the impact on the construction industry will be enormous.
