What is an SBEM?
SBEM stands for Simplified Building Energy Model and is for any new commercial and non-domestic building. It measures the energy needed for heating, cooling, ventilating and lighting. It may also be needed for an existing building that is being renovated or extended.
How are they calculated?
Before you start work on site, I’ll put together the SBEM calculations using drawings and specifications. Then on completion, I’ll visit the site to finalise the calculations.
Why are SBEM calculations required?
SBEM calculations form a BRUKL report (that stands for Building Regulations UK Part L), and they also form part of the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). But it’s not only about ticking boxes; they also help you focus on the carbon footprint of your building and understand how energy-efficient it will be.
What else you might want to know…
I have many years’ experience putting together SBEM calculations, on everything from the smallest office to the largest commercial development. If you’d like to talk through your project, give me a call or send me an email. I’d love to help.
